Near the border with Myanmar, this town is noted for one of the world's longest and least-crowded beaches—an incredible 75-mi/121-km stretch of silvery gold sand, backed by tropical-forested hills. We found the shore to be especially impressive at sunrise and sunset, when the sand appears to change color. Cox's Bazar is a good place to enjoy water-related activities, shop for handmade clothes, relax and enjoy the scenery.
There are some interesting towns in the area: inani beach (whose beach ranges from 1,000 ft/305 m wide at low tide to 600 ft/183 m at high), Ramu (with Buddhist temples and pagodas) and Tenkaf (on the southernmost tip of Bangladesh). Hotels and cottages are adequate, but space tends to fill quickly on weekends during the dry season. We recommend a minimum of three nights in the area. 60 mi/95 km south of Chittagong.
